SAN FRANCISCO, CA — May Day!  May Day!  Six weeks of cinematic pseudo-sincerity!  This May Day comes Attack of the Killer B-Movies. A trio of deadly B-movies at their biggest, baddest and most brilliant! Horror classics The Birds, the Bad Seed and the Blob, are brought to life by an intrepid acting ensemble, and  ‘streamlined’ by SF playwright Sean Owens (Best Comic Playwright, SF Weekly).  Two weekends each—and all three deftly handled by a fearless stable of actors. Another Dark Room classic, to be talked about for years to come!

Equal parts camp and cunning, each of these film classics exudes lurid excess, as well as astute insights on the taboos and terrors of its era, balancing the satiric with the sensational, the cliché and the clever.

Beginning with the Hitchcock classic, THE BIRDS (May 1-10), this ominous tale of avian invasion ripples with undercurrents of feminism, as willful gadabout Melanie Daniels pursues a ‘lovebird’ relationship with enterprising lawyer Mitch Brenner, while the quiet town of Bodega Bay takes notice. It’s Mitch’s mother, Lydia who rules the roost—but before feathers can fly, an aerial assault pits the hapless household against a squadron of starlings. Michelle Talgarow directs.

Next, Maxwell Anderson’s cult classic THE BAD SEED (May 15-24) finally gets the spanking it deserves. Pandemonium reigns as Christine Penmark, devoted wife and mother, gradually discovers the dark side of her insufferably sweet 10-year old daughter Rhoda. Christine grows more alarmed when little Claude, the winner of the school’s coveted penmanship medal, tragically drowns and his medal mysteriously vanishes.  Can a criminologist, a mystery writer and a Freud-fixated, nosy neighbor discover the moral decay festering behind little Rhoda’s radiant smile? Jim Fourniadis directs.

Finally, it takes a ragtag team of scofflaws to alert their sleepy town to the gelatinous dangers that a fallen meteor has unleashed. Brooding teen Steve Andrews interrupts a hot date with good girl Janie Johnson to chase the oozing, formless horror that’s gobbling up the community in THE BLOB (May 29 - June 7). Sean Owens directs.

Attack of the Killer B-Movies runs May 1 – June 7, 2008; Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays @ 8pm, at the Dark Room Theater, 2263 Mission Street, between 18th and 19th, SF.  Tickets are $15 at brownpapertickets.com or $20 at the door.  More info at darkroomsf.com/killerbs, 415-401-7987, or wsup@darkroomsf.com

NANCY BOWER
THE BIRDS  Melanie Daniels, Ensemble
Nancy loves the Dark Room. Last seen on the stage in a Creepshow episode, she is happy to be back. Most recently, Nancy played Stacy Keach's drugged-out daughter in the indie, Imbued, directed by Rob Nilsson. (Where are all the bird droppings?)

DAMIEN CHACONA
THE BAD SEED  Kenneth Penmark, Richard Bravo
THE BLOB  Officer Bird, Danny
Damien acts because he does not know how to be. This has been a recurring issue in many of his relationships both public and private. In February, he was goaded into a fight with a nasty stretch of macadam and lost. If you'd like to buy his art to help fund some extensive, squeem-inducing dental work, check out chacona.com!

RHIANNON CHARISSE
Lighting Design & Operator
Rhiannon is excited to be designing lights for Attack of the Killer B-Movies, and is even more excited to be co-designing with Amanda. She thinks she's hilarious, and invites everyone who agrees to converse with her. Everyone who disagrees should probably steer clear. You can hear her being hilarious at Bad Movie Night every Sunday, where even without a microphone her voice rings like a bell through the night. (Fleetwood Mac, anyone?)

FLYNN DE MARCO
THE BLOB  Mooch, Mr. Andrews, Mechanic
Flynn likes to perform in plays; he doesn't like to write bios.

JORDAN ELDREGE
THE BLOB  Steve Andrews
Having recently graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Music in classical voice, Jordan Eldredge is excited to have time to peruse non-operatic theater again. His Bay Area credits include performances with Pocket Opera, Sonoma City Opera and Cinnabar Theater as well as roles at SFSU including Papageno in Mozart's The Magic Flute, and Tartuffe in Mechem's operatic setting of Molière's Tartuffe. He looks forward to spending the summer as music director for Cinnabar Theater's youth production of an original musical based on Alice in Wonderland.

CAMERON ENG
Production, Graphics
Busy as a veteran of the KLUBSTiTUTE KOLLECTiVE and many an Impossible Production, Cameron couldn’t be happier to be a part of this brilliant hive of activity.  His swarm of credits include: the Virgin Queen Contest, the Faux Queen Pageant (for Drag Queens Trapped in Womens’ Bodies), CLUE, the Princess Bride, BATMAN the TV Show: the Play, Emperor Norton: A New Musical, Young Frankenstein, Duck Soup, the Ten Commandments…and, well, the list drones on.  Be on the lookout for the Wicker Man at the Dark Room this Halloween.  He thanks Terrance Alan, his honey and bemuse of inspiration.

JIM FOURNIADIS
Sound Engineer
THE BAD SEED Director
Jim didn't ask to be a Bee's director, and he resents having to wear a yellow striped vest and deely-bobbers, but such is the nature of sacrifice for one's art. That said, all the free honey is awesome.

JIM JESKE
THE BIRDS Lydia Brenner, Postal Clerk, Deke Carter, Ensemble
THE BAD SEED Reginald Tasker, Mr. Daigle
THE BLOB Principal, Gig, Old Timer

Jim Jeske is glad to be back again at the Dark Room stage to glare, twitch, bark, jerk, shudder, and leer.  He's thinking of changing his middle name to "Bombast."

GERRI LAWLOR
THE BAD SEED  Hortense Daigle
Gerri is very thrilled to be in this show. Her last production was Spencer Day's original musical Someday Love. She can be heard in the Residents River of Crime as the voice of the video game the Sims and as BBC America’s Sister Randy. She is a current member of the BATS Company, Tonal Chaos and the Sexy Lilliputians.

JOSH LENN
THE BIRDS  Mitch Brenner, Ensemble
Josh is pumped to be working with the wonderful people at the Dark Room again. Previous shows here are The Princess Bride and Creepshow. So much love to family and friends for all their support.

DONNA K. MOORE
THE BAD SEED Miss Claudia Fern
Donna K. Moore, a native of New Orleans, began her dance career at age three and was in her first theatrical production at age fourteen. Maintaining a full theatrical/academic scholarship at Louisiana State University, she earned a BFA in acting with a minor in theatre makeup. Since moving to San Francisco fourteen years ago, Donna has been involved in a myriad of performing arts in the Bay Area. In addition to acting and dance, she also works as a makeup artist for stage, screen and stills, and is very involved in costuming and makeup design for events related to the annual Burning Man Festival. She has recently appeared at The Garage as Leni Reifenstahl in Disney & Deutschland, and here at the Dark Room as Elaine Benes in the originally written ‘Seinfeld’ episode of Twilight Zone: the Plays, Season V.

AMANDA ORTMAYER
Set Design
Amanda Ortmayer is a new friend of the Dark Room and an old friend of several of its members.  Most of the time you can find her at the EXIT Theatre, either designing a show, or dealing with the antics of the Tenderloin.  She enjoys her boyfriend, her dog and cheesy jazz.

SEAN OWENS
Producer, Costumes
THE BIRDS Mrs. Macgruder, Mrs. Bundy, Deputy Al Malone, Ensemble
THE BAD SEED Rhoda Penmark
THE BLOB
Director
Sean Owens is the author of over 30 plays, has been produced both locally and internationally, and was voted "Best Comic Playwright" by the SF Weekly. Sean recently returned from New York with Her Majesty, a two-person farce produced by the EXIT Theatre, and has just completed his hosting duties for this year's DIVAFest Cabaret. Dark Room fans may remember Sean's performances in BATMAN (Riddler), Young Frankenstein (Igor), CLUE (Wadsworth) and multiple Twilight Zone and Creepshow episodes. After producing, directing, costuming, and performing in the Killer B's, Sean's plans for the remainder of 2008 are to nap and consume soft foods.

JEREMY SOLTERBECK
Videograhy, Animations
Jeremy Solterbeck is the director/animator who specializes in making things harder than they need to be.  His past exploits include: Dan the Automator, Mike Patton, Mclusky, Foetus, Erase Errata, and Modey Lemon to name a few.  His controversial animated short on the subject of cloning screened all over the world.  He is currently writing as many scripts as possible in order to postpone making another film.

ALEXIA STANIOTES
THE BIRDS Cathy Brenner, Annie Hathaway, Scared Mom
THE BAD SEED Christine Penmark
THE BLOB Janie Johnson
Alexia Staniotes has wowed Dark Room regulars with star turns as Robin (BATMAN The TV Show: The Play); Inga (Young Frankenstein); Vera (Duck Soup) and as one-half of the sketch duo Red Door On The Left. She has appeared in past seasons of Twilight Zone and Creepshow, as well as directing The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill. Alexia has kept the Dark Room humming in nearly every capacity—stage manager, understudy, tech, and chair-restacker. She owes this dubious honor to her best friend, Rhiannon, who said this was a cool place to hang out.

MICHELLE TALGAROW
THE BIRDS Director
THE BAD SEED  Monica Breedlove
THE BLOB  Mrs. Porter, Kate, Mrs. Andrews, Chick One
Michelle is excited to be the first 'B' to take flight with The Birds and once again 'flock' with the Dark Room family.  She’s looking forward to performing in the 2nd & 3rd installment of this ‘Triple Threat’ as well. Michelle has been an active member of the Bay Area theatre community for many years as a performer, instructor and director (go on, Google her).  She is half of the comedy duo “Lemmy and Figgy” (check’m out on YouTube). Nothing but love, admiration and gratitude goes out to her stellar cast for all their hard work. Michelle would also like to say “thank you” to all who continue to create works of art that elevate the mind and stretch the soul and to all those who continue to support and appreciate it.  Thanks.

DON WOOD
THE BIRDS  Man, Drunk Salesman, Dan Fawcett, Harry, Ensemble
THE BAD SEED   Leroy, Doctor
THE BLOB  Officer Dave, Doc Hallan, Chick Two
Don Wood has been insane...ly busy lately, but he never complains, to your face.  Just finished playing Tom Sukanen in an indy film in Saskatchewan called Sisu: The Tom Sukanen Story directed by Chrystene Ells. Also just played Tracy in H.P. Mendoza's (Colma: The Musical) local indy film Fruit Fly: The Musical. Can also be seen on YouTube.com as Figgy with his pal Michelle Talgarow (Lemmy). Just type in "Lemmy and Figgy" He is giddy to be once again at The Dark Room working with all of his amazingly creative friends.

Special Thanks to GEOF TEAGUE (notsotough.com), RAGING
