The Business New Year's Eve Spectacular:
Should Old Businessmen Be Forgot Edition

The Business

Ring in 2014 and say "Smell you later!" to 2013 with The Business' first New Year's Eve shows. On December 30th and 31, San Francisco's most acclaimed alt-comedy showcase is doing two shows each night, featuring Business members new and old. Make it your resolution to be here!

Why get blackout drunk in a sweaty dance club when you can face 2014 laughing until your spleen bursts? Spend the evening with the show that SF Magazine called the "rumbling epicenter" of San Francisco comedy.

The show features:

- Caitlin Gill, from NPR's "Snap Judgment," and about whom Tara Jepsen said "If hapless and fearless can occupy the same body, then it's in Caitlin Gill."
- Nato Green, former writer for "Totally Biased" on FX, and the creator of Iron Comic, the Iron Chef-spoofing comedy game show he co-hosts with Moshe Kasher
- Sean Keane, from SF Sketchfest and the Bridgetown Comedy Festival
- Anna Seregina (December 30 only), from the Cannes Film Festival short "Stepsister," as well as SF Sketchfest, the Bruise Cruise Festival, and KOFY TV 20's Creepy Movie Time
- Bucky Sinister, from Litquake, author of self-help books, recorder of comedy albums, and champion of ketel bells.
- Chris Thayer, from "The Pete Holmes Show" on TBS, and both the SF and LA editions of The Business.

We've got special guests and surprises in store for these special year-end shows. And as always, we promise there will be absolutely no Ryan Seacrest whatsoever.

"The ethos here is one of freedom and risk-taking. The variety, skill, and energy of the performers usually results in a show that's never strictly business." - SF Weekly, "Best of Sf 2012"

It's a Wonderful Life: Live!

It’s a Wonderful Life: Live!

Join in the fun as we lovingly besmirch a holiday classic!!

The sleepy little town of Bedford Falls is praying for George Bailey.

And he sure needs a prayer. He keeps doing the right thing but he just can't seem to catch a break. And now as Christmas draws near, he hobbles, drunken and confused, onto a small bridge weighing the merits of suicide over jail.

As he peers over the railing trying to get up the nerve to throw himself off, celestial help comes from above in the form of centuries-dead clock maker Clarence Oddbody. Although at first blush he appears to be a plain, ordinary goofball, it soon becomes apparent George Bailey that Clarence is in fact quite an exceptional goofball.

Will George prevail in spite of miserly Mr. Potter? Will Violet get lucky? Will Clarence get his wings?

And what about Mary??????

Don't forget to place a special angel on top of your tree this December and then come to the Dark Room Theater to warm up with some hot cocoa* and join us as we watch George Bailey stumble unwittingly upon the real and true meaning of life!!!

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE: LIVE is written and directed by Jim Fourniadis and stars Dan Foley, Alexia Staniotes, Dave McKew, Craig Souza, Travis Eichorn, Lauren Davidson, Jennifer Keller, Layla Rudy, Edna Mira Barron, Charles Young, Katrina Kroetch, Jaime San Felippo, Mikee Ewing, and Jim Jeske as Clarence Oddbody AS2!!!.

Trainwreck Cabaret

Come one, come all, it's Trainwreck Cabaret, San Francisco's most unusual variety show. Godzilla: Live!

A massive earthquake hits the city by the bay releasing Godzilla from his molten prison, and he's not too happy about it.

Also unhappy is poor Emily who has been engaged to noted scientist and recluse Dr. Sertz since she was a young teen. The Rejects of Standup

The Rejects of Standup-

The Rejects of Standup are a group of five comedians and some of their comedian friends who have all been rejected by the world of mainstream standup comedy. They want to offer you an comedy experience that comedy clubs do not want to offer you. It's comedy for people who hate comedy, comedy for people who think comedy is boring, outdated, and out of touch with reality. It's unstructured, sporadic, and spontaneous. Every one of the performers that you will see has the ability to take a mainstream comedy show and turn it on it's ass within the first 10 seconds of their performance. Of course, if you end up not liking the show, the name is self-explanatory enough that you can't really blame anyone but yourself.

Tickets: $10 at the door,

Dirty Dancing: Live!

Dirty Dancing: Live!

It was the summer of 1963, before President Kennedy was shot, before the Beatles came, and, when, oddly enough, soundtracks were composed in the 1980s. Innocent 17-year-old Baby vacations with her parents at a Catskills resort. One evening, she carries a watermelon to the staff quarters, where she meets Johnny, the bad-boy hotel dance instructor, who is as experienced (slutty) as Baby is naïve (underage). Baby soon becomes Johnny's pupil in dance (sex) and love (more sex). Will Johnny's kinda dancin' win over the respect of Baby's father? Will Baby be able to cover Penny's dancing when she goes to see her real M.D.? Will Lisa ever find her beige iridescent lipstick? Come see DIRTY DANCING: LIVE! at The Dark Room Theater in May to find out.

Eloisa Bravo (Hosting)
Crazy comedy is her thing! Eloisa is a spicy Venezuelan that addresses the urban issues of a single woman. Packed with energy and cuteness she will make you laugh, assuming you are lucky enough to understand her accent. She was a semifinalist of Rooster T. Feathers comedy competition (2011) and has performed at the Purple Onion, Rooster T. Feathers, the Palm Beach Improv, the Miami Improv and the Hollywood Improv.

Francine Dead (Burlesque Dancer)
Francine is the product of Vaudeville, Worker Bee's, and the American Dream. Inspired by classic Hollywood glamour, this Femme fatal intends to ignite you with delight! Brash and passionate Francine has an insatiable thirst for love, beauty and the unknown. This Fire eating, Burlesque performer may appear to have an icy exterior...but watch her work the stage and it is apparent she smolders within. You can see Francine Dead perform from one end of the bay to the other. Weither it be burlesque at RedHots or Fire for Hoodslam, this is an act not to be missed.

Hernan Cortez (Sword Swallower)
Wow!!! Is the only way to describe this amazing performer. Hernan has more than 20 years amusing children and adults alike with his extraordinary act. He goes beyond what a human body can do and he will show you the magic of the circus brought to the stage! This Daredevil preforms all over the Bay Area and he is definitely a treat to the eyes and the mind!

Sheba Queen of the Night (Burlesque Dancer)
Born in a sea of mermaids in New York city but began shakin' it on a stage in Oakland, CA. Sheba, originally from the SF Bay Area, currently residing in Los Angeles, CA but no matter where she is her home is where her art is. Her pasties travel at times, she has performed in Reno, NV, Sacramento, CA, Sebastapool, CA, Long Beach, CA and throughout the greater Los Angeles and SF Bay area. She is inspired by and adores drag queens and drag kings, vaudeville sideshow and is memorized by classic burlesque and old hollywood glamour. Her performance art dazzles and delights with sex-positive kinky themes and her fierce feminist views. You may see her wrapped in furs and sequins or strapped in lace and leather, depending on her mood. She exudes sensuality with every step...luring...conjuring...and will have you purring for more.

Sydney Sin (Blues Singer)
Raised in the Bay Area and resurrected from Hell, Sidney Sin sold her soul to entertain. With the voice of an angel and the mind of a sexual deviant, this sultry banshee takes burlesque and stitches it together with wit and revenge. Ms. Sin debuted at Tourettes Without Regrets and can be seen at several local shows, including Seduction Fèroce.

Brian Fields (Storyteller)
Dr. Fields (yes, this guy has a PHD) funny, outrageous, and shocking comedy has made him stand out in the San Francisco Comedy scene. He is considered to be the new Lenny Bruce (at least one person said so). He was a Battle of the Bay finalist (2010) and has performed at the Purple Onion, Rooster T. Feathers, and the San Jose Improv.

Pippi Lovestocking (Drag Queen Comedienne)
Pippi Lovestocking is the drag personae of actor Scot Free of San Francisco.Originally from a small town in North Carolina just outside of Raleigh, Scot was never the type of kid to hide his light under a bushel. An aspect of his personality that was not embraced by the conservative southern baptist citizenry of his hometown. "I was raised within the church but still turned out gay, must've been all the snake handling" quips Scot when asked about his sexuality.

Bad Movie Night: Queen of Outer Space
with Jim Fourniadis and Sherilyn Connelly
and guest Will Franken
Bad Movie Night is San Francisco's only audience-participation movie riffing show, inspired by yet featuring nobody from Mystery Science Theater 3000! In the mid-twentieth century, filmmakers created many bold visions of what humankind might find up among the stars. However, the 1958 stinkburger Queen of Outer Space is not one of the bolder visions, though it does have Zsa Zsa Gabor as the (heh) titular space queen. The Dark Room's Jim Fourniadis, Sherilyn Connelly, and special guest riffer Will Franken will take it on, and they invite you (yes, you!) to shout your own riffs at the screen. Free popcorn, Banjo, a crappy movie...what could be better?

The Dress Up Gang
The Dress Up Gang is a sketch comedy group featuring the comedic talents of Cory Loykasek, Donny Divanian, and various other non-paid actors. Both funny stand-ups in their own right, Cory and Donny crossed paths in San Francisco in 2009 and quickly discovered their mutual love of dressing up. Soon they began filming sketches with the help of their friend Robb Boardman. The famously hard to please SF blog Uptown Almanac has said The Dress Up Gang is "worth checking out." This is their third year appearing in Sketchfest.

Yogi Paliwal
Yogi Paliwal started comedy in 2008 at the young age of 18. He left stand up to pursue love and education, but when those roads closed he decided to focus more on standup comedy.

In his few years in the Seattle comedy scene he has performed at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival, The FunnyFest Calgary Comedy Festival, a finalist in the 96.5 Make Jack Laugh comedy competition and he made it to the Seattle NBC Standup for Diversity Showcase. Carl Warmenhoven the manager of the Comedy Underground has said, "He has a youthness about him."

If you were to ask Yogi how he would describe his comedy he would say it's "Intellectual absurdity." If you asked him what that means he would say, "My material isn't smart, but you need to be smart to see how stupid the joke is."

Taste Better Wit / Hot Mess SF / 3 Woman 1 Woman Show (with 3 Women)
Hosted by Jeff Wattenhofer
Taste Better Wit
Originating from the bowels of Bindlestiff Studio, TASTE BETTER WIT is a collective of former Filipino American law enforcement officers who met each other by chance in a dingy alley of Sixth Street while breaking up the workings of a secret meth lab. After several rounds of celebratory beers and tearful confessions, a performance group was born out of the necessity of pointing out injustices in a corrupt system of the sketch comedy hierarchy.

Hot Mess SFv
Hot Mess SF is a rip-roaring group of comedians, artists, theatre nerds and improv dorks. Formed in 2011, the group began doing public performances and in 2012, audiences of real people actually started attending. Their work is all original and combines music, dance and film. Their drink of choice is Jameson and their favorite color is regret. Find them in your local bar making terrible choices and putting it on Youtube.

3 Woman 1 Woman Show
3 Woman, 1 Woman Show (with three women) is a comedic sketch play written, directed, and performed by Hayley Lovgren, Maren Lovgren, and Kristin Schmitz (no relation). All Bay Area natives, this trio first met at Santa Clara University where they bonded over their shared love of comedy, feminism, and oddball antics. Their three-woman show debuted in January 2012 to sold-out audiences at WORKS/San Jose. The show focuses on finding humor in being a woman (or three women) in today's society. All three ladies are proud members of The Cardboard Box Theatre Project.

Goatface Comedy
Four friends who realized they could do something special were they to combine forces. A decision which was heavily influenced by the success of Captain Planet and The Power Rangers.

Asif Ali is a leader and innovator. He hopes his photo becomes a painting someday. He does standup, improve and acting. AMERICA.

Fahim Anwar is a standup comedian, writer, actor and dancer. He doesn't know why he can dance and thinks it's just as weird as you do. He has been on TV but more importantly, Youtube. He used to be an aerospace engineer at Boeing but now he does comedy full time. His parents are concerned.

The pair combine hilarious lyrics and high-energy stage antics with the bangin'-est beats to blow minds throughout the land. Where Bob and Doug MacKenzie meet Tenacious D, Valley Meadows emerges, fly enough to score in loafers and man enough to croon ballads about the rain. They recently released their debut, self-titled album on Stand Up! Records. Knutson is the winner of Acme Comedy Company's 2010 Funniest Person Contest and Coulter is the winner of the 2011 ABSOLUT Funniest Comedian Contest. www.therealvalleymeadows.com

Trainwreck Cabaret

Trainwreck Cabaret

Trainwreck Cabaret captures the charm of off-color entertainment from the 1950s, with the sarcastic modern twist that could only come out of San Francisco. You'll enjoy comedy, music, puppets, sword-swallowing, and burlesque. For your entertainment, we've captured the best local talent from many different genres and put them together for a show you'll never forget.

Gitlin (Host)
Raised by Jews in an enchanted forest north of Detroit, Jason only recently discovered his talents for making people uncomfortable after a chance encounter with the devil at the crossroads. Though he came away from the deal missing 9/10ths of his soul, he can now play the ukulele and trombone while making mediocre jokes about historical monsters including Hitler, Mao, and of course, Martin Van Buren.

Hernan Cortez(Sword Swallower)

Dottie Lux(Burlesque Dancer)
Just like The City By The Bay, Dottie Lux is known for her dizzying hills and dangerous curves. Now calling San Francisco home, Dottie produces the only weekly burlyshow in town, Red Hots Burlesque (every weds and fri). As a performer she's known to cause a ruckus with a horn, shake it up and bring bawdy brouhaha to well known stages like Coney Island Side Show, The Supper Club, Bimbos and at Golden Gate Park with the Outside Lands Music Festival as well as Treasure Island Music Festival with tens of thousands in attendance. Dottie has been featured in Curve Magazine, on the cover of Go Magazine and as host of Reno Gay Pride. Also an educator, she has performed and lectured at YBCA, NYU, Berkeley College and Bard University. New Orleans, Boston, Baltimore, Washington DC, LA, San Diego, Reno and Seattle have all got a taste of Dottie's chuckles, bumps and grinds. See more at www.RedHotsBurlesque.com.

Adam McLaughlin(Puppeteer)
His clever take on life is at times nerdy but always accessible and hilarious to all. Adam faces all subjects with a unique wit and savvy writing style to create jokes that are clever and insightful while silly and self-deprecating. Four years ago Adam started to go after his other passion Puppets and he has incorporated it to his already hilarious comedy. Regularly performs at San Francisco's Purple Onion and Castagnola's, seen at the Great American Comedy Festival and The San Francisco PunchLine.

Ryan Cronin (Puppeteer)
Bay area based comedian and actor. Finalist in the San Francisco Battle of the Bay Comedy Competition, co-writer & member of AnimalTrash.com. Member of Nightlife on Mars and The Stand-Up Project. To get a preview of Ryan and Adam's puppet empire, visit their puppet lair.

Casey Grim(Opera Singer)
Loud and unleashed, Casey Grim voices her observations with a sharp wit and no regrets and uses her many years of opera training most inappropriately. Her unique style and vivacious energy leave audiences gasping for breath in every venue she performs in. She is a regular in venues all over the bay area and has opened for Michael Meehan. Casey has been seen performing at the legendary Purple Onion, San Jose Improv, San Francisco Punchline, and NYC's Gotham Comedy Club.

Eloisa Bravo(Stand Up Comic)
Crazy comedy is her thing! Eloisa is a spicy Venezuelan that addresses the urban issues of a single woman. Packed with energy and cuteness she will make you laugh, assuming you are lucky enough to understand her accent. She was a semifinalist of Rooster T. Feathers comedy competition (2011) and has performed at the Purple Onion, Rooster T. Feathers, the Palm Beach Improv, the Miami Improv and the Hollywood Improv.
