Dr. Strangelove: Live!
The story so far...
The world is teetering on global disaster. Detente is fragile. Politics trumps common sense. Military action is over-deployed. Warmongers are too quick to fire off missiles as a quick solution to diplomatic concerns. Lives are at stake, the planet hangs in the balance and a paralyzing fear grows more and more clear every day that many of our elected leaders and advisors are totally BONKERS. No, it's not the daily news. It's 1962!!
Pandemonium reigns as President Merkin Muffley gingerly breaks the news to an inebriated Soviet Premier that General Jack Ripper has sent his bombers to nuke the Russkies without authorization. Will Buck Turgidson marry former playboy bunny, Miss Scott? Will the Russian Ambassador get caught spying on the Big Board? Will Colonel Bat Guano shoot Group Captain Lionel Mandrake before he can call the president? What exactly is a preversion? And will Dr. Strangelove have a plan for a bold new future??
Watch as we bring to life Stanley Kubrick's classic black comedy which pushes 60's cold war anxiety through Groucho's Marx's cigar, and laugh otherwise you may just shudder.
Dr. Strangelove: LIVE, adapted and directed by Jim Fourniadis. Starring Tim Kay, Andy Wenger, Dan Foley, Peter Illes, Adam Curry, Becky Hirschfeld, Damien Chacona, Craig Souza, Alexia Staniotes and Sean Kelly as the Doctor.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Philadelphia's breakout hit Superheroes Who Are Super! bringing its unique brand of comedy to SAN FRANCISCO including "The Joker's Greatest Boner" (yes, its as low brow comedy as it sounds)!
Comedian and storyteller Morgan invites audiences to share an evening with her as she shares her experiences as a former male iron worker who boldly changed her life's direction and emerged as one of the world's most outspoken and hilarious lesbian transwomen.
Morgan has appeared on stand-up stages all over the Bay Area such as The Punchline, The Purple Onion, Russian River Resortand Sacramento Comedy Spot among countless others. Her performance career took a fortuitous turn when she joined the cast of the long running Bawdy Storytelling, a series of live spoken word events which turned out to be a perfect match for Morgan's ribald personality and smartly crafted tales. When she noticed her stories were getting standing ovations she decided the time was right to put together an entire evening of stories culled from her own exceptional life.
The intimate stage of the Dark Room Theater is the perfect venue for audiences looking to enjoy the wit and wisdom of the woman the SF Bay Times called "one of San Francisco's fastest rising comedians and a heroine to the transgender community."
Shockingly candid and outrageously funny, "Hold Still...I Want To Tell You A Story" is an evening with Morgan you won't soon forget.
In 2004 Spy Emerson was living in Prague, Czech Republic as the director of a Conceptual Art space, working jobs in different countries around the world. During a museum job in California, she became pregnant, and decided to change her life completely. She shut down the gallery, moved back to California, and refocused all of her energy into having her child.
Lucky Anderson was born August 26th, 2005, and since that day, Spy has remained committed to her choice to be experience rich, but cash poor, spending all of her time raising her son to be the exceptional child he is. If you have ever met Lucky, you can't help but note what a sparklingly bright, well-educated, responsive, loving, imaginative boy he is. Spy and Lucky have lived on a shoestring for the past 5 years so that Lucky could gain all the benefits of being with his mother, rather than being in a daycare, a gift provided with much committed effort on her part.
Spy and Lucky were joyfully planning a move to Sebastopol (a mere 45 minutes north) to begin the next chapter of their lives, so Lucky can enter a charter Waldorf School in the fall. 6 days before they were to move, Spy was served with a restraining order by her son's father, who ultimately decided not to let them leave Alameda County. He also decided to sue for sole custody of Lucky. Lucky's father has money, and a lawyer advising him.
Spy is an orphan since age 16; she has no money, and no financial help to speak of. She has exhaustively searched out free legal help, but in this economic depression, has found nothing available to her, and is running out of time. She is in great need of legal help, which costs at least $300/hour.
All proceeds from this event will go towards getting Spy the legal help she needs to keep Lucky and move to Sebastopol where he can flourish. There will be a raffle of items generously donated by community organizations that Spy and Lucky have been members of, and food as well.
Performers include KROB, The Dark Room's very own Jim Fourniadis, Cyclecide Walter, Dan the Tuba Player, Dr. Hal, and of course, Spy Emerson, and Mr. John Hell of Radio Valencia is the MC.
Tickets: $10 (or more) at the door.

Come join the ladies behind PianoFight's Monday Night ForePlays as they hatch a compilation of brand-new comedic sketches in "Spring EGGstravaganza" this April! ForePlays will premiere this original female-driven comedy variety show on April 4th at 8pm, and it will run every Monday night until April 25th at The Dark Room.
Brace yourselves, people; ForePlays has returned after a two-month hiatus to answer some of your most urgent and burning questions. For example, ever wondered what would happen if the popular 5-Hour Energy product was re-imagined in a more adaptable 72-Hour form? Or how the story of a 17th century humorist's poem about restoring hymens ("maiden-heads") can be told in a modern-day original musical? And what is "dick bloat?" "Spring EGGStravaganza" also tackles the age-old "chicken and the egg" dilemma come first to learn which "came first!"
As a variety show, ForePlays provides a platform for talented female writers, actors, musicians and stand-up comedians of the Bay Area. "Spring EGGstravaganza" will feature award-winning comedians like Janine Brito and Mary Van Note, along with music from The Whiskey Richards and Hanna Rifkin. ForePlays is produced, written and directed by Ruth Grossinger, Nicole Hammersla, Kate Jones, Jessica Mele and Emma Rose Shelton. Joining them as writers and directors this April are Gabi Patacsil, Rachel Rockwood and Meredith Terry. "Spring EGGstravaganza" also features Rachel Ferensowicz, Jed Goldstein, David Levine, Joseph Cornelius Scheppers, Duncan Wold and Sarah Wright-Schreiberg.
Since debuting in November 2009, ForePlays has premiered more than 50 performances, serving up a (farm) fresh female perspective to the SF comedy scene. ForePlays has recently showcased special performances at "SF ImprovFest" and "SF SketchFest" at the Eureka Theater, "WomenROCK" at The Independent, "Comedy Brains" at The Marsh and "A Funny Night for Comedy" at Actors Theatre of San Francisco. ForePlays is committed to creating smart and original comedy while providing a consistent platform for talented female writers, actors, musicians and stand-up comedians in and near San Francisco.
Become a fan of Monday Night ForePlays on Facebook to get $5 off online. A select amount of VIP tickets (which include the best seating in the house and special ForePlays gifts) will be available for $30. Get your tickets now and we look forward to seeing you there!
